Fall in Grand Rapids: Pizza, Gourds and Coffee

Fall in Grand Rapids: Pizza, Gourds and Coffee

It’s that time of year. Can you feel it? CAN YA?! It’s fall, folks. And that means one thing, pumpkin…spice…lattes.

Actually, I’m kidding. What fall really means is that Grand Rapids is kickin’. With many events to attend, seasonal beers to drink, and farmers markets to enjoy there is quite possibly no way that you can not enjoy this season in one of Michigan’s finest cities. I’ve picked out my top three “must-do” activities for this fall. But don’t just listen to me — get out there and enjoy everything Grand Rapids has to offer this season.

1.) CVLT Pizza

Pizza is good. Pizza is fine. Pizza is ALL mine. Especially the pizza being dished out at CVLT Pizza in Grand Rapids on Jefferson. Specializing in East Coast style pizza you’re guaranteed a slice that is thin, crisp, and loaded with farm fresh goodies. Better still, that fresh produce is coming from farms located throughout West Michigan. Which means that pizzas are hand-crafted depending on what is in season. Check out their Facebook page or follow them on Twitter for specials.

2.) Herb & Gourd Festival at Meijer Gardens

I love fall because I love gourds. I truly do. I even just love saying the word gourd because it’s fun. So upon finding out that Meijer Gardens will be hosting a festival honoring one of my favorite fall things ever, well, lets just say I got pretty excited. Head out to the Meijer Gardens on East Beltline September 20th and 21st to learn how to include the “Spice of the Year,” Artemesia, into your season dishes. Plus learn exciting new ways to decorate gourds, including — but not limited to — chip carving, transferring patterns, wood burning, applying clay and dye finishes AND MORE! Ya gotta be there, people.

3.) Lantern Coffee Bar

This is the place to gather this fall. Lantern Coffee Bar, located on Commerce Avenue in Grand Rapids, is filled with good coffee, good snacks, and even better people. So for all you students out there pack up your books and camp out here while you study for midterms. Or, swing by during Art Prize and pick up a hot drink. If you plan on having any sort of gathering here make sure to call ahead of time and place an order for food from GR Bagel, Bartertown Diner, or Wednesday Evening Cookies.

What are you planning on doing in Grand Rapids this fall?

Hello fellow Michiganders! I'm Kelly, KB, Special K, or Downtown Kelly Brown. I've lived almost my whole life in this glorious mitten shaped state but currently reside in both Traverse City and Grand Rapids, where I am finishing up my bachelors in Creative Writing (I hear it's the golden ticket of degrees.) My love for both Traverse City and Grand Rapids is vast, and I find both the city and country life very wonderful. When I'm not locked away in my room reading books, you'll find me creeping in the back of a coffee shop or brewery with a notebook in hand, writing down ideas for future novels. I like sleeping, calling my dogs my children, and watching re-runs of shows like The Tudors, Dr.Who, Sherlock and Game of Thrones. I call my home The Shire, I drink wine in the middle of the day, and I'm just fumbling through life waiting to see what this awesome state has in store for me
