With fall quickly approaching in Michigan, all the best activities and treats are just around the corner. One of my favorite parts of the season is enjoying both the cozy fall flavors and the fun things to do that make autumn special here. From apple picking to cider and donuts, I’ve rounded up some of my go-to places for the best fall experiences in Southeast Michigan.

1. Pick Apples at Blake’s Orchard | South Lyon
Apple picking is a Michigan classic. Whether you’re planning to make an apple pie, apple cider or even caramel apples, Blake’s Orchard in South Lyon has a wonderful selection of apples to choose from. During the months of September and October, 15+ different varieties of apples are available to harvest.
Grab a bag, hop on the tractor-pulled wagon, and get dropped off at different orchards along the route. You can pick, hop back on, or stay on until the next stop. One of the best parts of this process is just the access to a variety of apples. You may just find a new favorite type of apple this fall!

2. Grab Cider & Donuts at Three Cedars Farm | Northville
Cider and donuts are fall staples, and Three Cedars is one of the best spots around. Three Cedars has numerous activities; however, their donut hut is the star of the show for its fresh cinnamon sugar and plain donuts, plus cider in all sizes.
The real winner? The cider slush – perfect for warm fall days but still a treat even when it’s chilly. Pair it with donuts and enjoy at one of the many indoor or outdoor seating areas.

3. Stock Up at Plymouth Orchards Red Shed Market | Plymouth
This quick-stop market is perfect for stocking up on seasonal goodies. It’s less crowded than the main Plymouth Orchards but still has a fantastic selection – applesauce, pumpkin butter, and other fall condiments that make your pantry feel ready for the season.

4. Choose Pumpkins at Obstbaum Orchards | Northville
This cider mill is a hidden gem for all the best pumpkin options. Out back, there’s a small patch filled with carving pumpkins, and up front, you’ll find decorative ones of all shapes and sizes. Whether you’re decorating the porch or carving jack-o’-lanterns, Obstbaum Orchards has the greatest selection of pumpkins for the fall season.

5. Sip Wine at Northville Winery | Northville
A local winery is such a cozy way to enjoy the season. Northville Winery, next to Parmenter’s Cider Mill, has outdoor seating, live music on some days, and food trucks here and there. Along with wine, they serve beer and hard cider – perfect for sipping while soaking in fall colors. It’s also easy to walk over to the cider mill for a double fall experience.

6. Take a Fall Color Tour on Hines Drive | Metro Detroit
Hines Drive is one of the best scenic routes for fall colors. Stretching through Dearborn, Westland, Plymouth, Livonia, Northville, and Garden City, it’s lined with beautiful trees that turn vibrant shades of red, orange, and gold. There are plenty of spots to pull off for photos, have a picnic, or just swing and relax while soaking in the crisp fall air.
