The farm is open year-round, but it really shines in the autumn! This is apple harvest season, and it is the perfect time to bring your family along to pick apples, go on hayrides, pick your own pumpkins, and enjoy fresh apple cider and doughnuts.

Almar Orchards | Flushing

Almar Orchards and Cider Mill is a farm dedicated to providing fresh, delicious produce grown through sustainable practices. This amazing orchard has been in operation since the 1850s, and still remains in the same family. 

Now, Almar Orchards has brought its methods into the 21st century. These planet-friendly growing methods help raise 150 acres each of apples and pears and encourage pollination. 

Here, visitors can help themselves to fresh fruit, play on the playground, or visit the farm store, where they can buy produce, hard apple cider, and pork, as well as apple cider vinegar, switchel, maple syrup, and honey.

Spicer Orchards | Fenton

Spicer Orchards, located in Fenton, is one of the most action-packed apple farms you can visit in East Michigan! This combined fruit orchard and winery has tons of autumn activities perfect for visitors of all ages.

McCallum’s Orchard & Cider Mill | Jeddo

McCallum’s Orchard and Cider Mill isn’t just a place to pick apples. It is also a place for all kinds of fun farm activities, including wagon rides, a petting zoo, a farm store, a play area for kids, and even a haunted house.

Apple season is long at McCallum’s, with dozens of varieties! Things kick off in July with early varieties like Lodi and wrap up in November with varieties like Pink Lady and Gold Rush. 

If you don’t want to pick your own apples, you can buy them (as well as other fresh produce) in the store. There are plenty of events throughout the fall at McCallum’s, too!

Markillie Orchard | Howell

Markillie Orchard in Howell is a newer apple farm, established in 1998. Though it doesn’t have generations of history behind it, it is still one of the best apple orchards in East Michigan. Here you will find some truly delicious apples, including several heirloom cultivars.

In addition to apples, visitors will find a picnic area, playground, and outdoor market. Here, you can buy apple cider slushies, soft-serve ice cream, and homemade goods like jams and jellies. 

Markillie Orchard might not have the dozens of activities and events that some farms do, but it’s the perfect place for good old-fashioned fun on the farm.

Mueller’s Orchard and Cider Mill | Linden

Mueller’s Orchard and Cider Mill, located in the town of Linden, is a quaint old-fashioned farm that will keep you coming back for more. It’s a popular place for school tours and family events, and there’s always something going on. 

The orchard is the main focus at Mueller’s, with dozens of apple varieties. Some are popular cultivars, while others aren’t as well known, such as Wealthy, Greening, Winesap, Snow, and Northern Spy. 

You can also watch fresh doughnuts and apple cider being made on-site at one of the most interesting cider mills in Michigan. Doughnut flavors vary throughout the year and include cinnamon sugar, plain, and pumpkin.

Clearview Orchards | Haslett

Clearview Orchards in Haslett is a classic family farm focused on apples and peaches. Here, visitors can pick 15 apple varieties in the fall, as well as pumpkins from the pumpkin patch

The apple harvest starts in late August. You can buy pre-picked apples in the farmstand or head out to the orchard to pick your own. Varieties here include McIntosh, Honeycrisp, Gala, Empire, and many more.

Miller Family Orchard in Vassar offers the chance to pick your own fruit throughout the year. Starting in the summer, visitors can pick their own cherries, blackberries, and plums.
