That’s where Mission Point Resort comes in. Tucked away on the peaceful sunrise side of the island, this resort makes it easy to relax, recharge, and soak in everything that makes Mackinac special. Whether you’re strolling the expansive lawn, enjoying a lakeside meal, or cozying up in one of their inviting guest rooms, the resort can make guests feel right at home, with better views.
A Stay Steeped in History
Mission Point is more than just a picturesque getaway — it’s a place steeped in history, transformation, and timeless charm.
It began in 1825 as a Protestant mission and boarding school established by William and Amanda Ferry to educate Native American children. The Mission House, one of the original buildings, still stands today as part of Mackinac Island State Park.
In the mid-1800s, the property became into one of the island’s first hotels, welcoming tourists until the Great Depression. In the 1950s, the site became home to the Moral Re-Armament movement, which built many of the resort’s current structures — including a theater and film studio that later played a role in the 1979 film Somewhere in Time.
By the late 1980s, the property was transformed into a resort under the name Mission Point. Today, the resort is known for its sweeping lawns, iconic Adirondack chairs, and family-friendly charm.
Guests can enjoy world-class amenities in a place that feels a world away — yet remains deeply connected to the island’s history.
Dining at Mission Point
There are multiple places within the resort to enjoy a great meal, from upscale waterfront dining at Chianti to casual bites at Round Island Kitchen or cocktails and snacks on the Great Lawn with unbeatable lake views.
Whether you’re looking for a romantic dinner, a family-friendly meal, or a laid-back lunch with a view, the resort has something to satisfy every craving.
Round Island Kitchen
Round Island Kitchen serves breakfast, lunch, and dinner. This casual eatery offers an elaborate breakfast buffet each morning, complete with a made-to-order omelet station.
The Round Island homemade Bloody Mary mix is a must-try. It has the perfect amount of spice and comes with pickled asparagus.
Chianti
Chianti offers a more formal dining experience. This restaurant on Mackinac Island specializes in Italian cuisine but also serves unique items such as wild boar.
Aside from their expansive dinner menu, Chianti also has a full brunch menu. The whitefish served with the smoked whitefish hash is freshly caught right in the Straits of Mackinac and the surrounding areas.
You guys, you must try the smoked whitefish hash. It is to die for.
Bistro on the Greens
Bistro on the Greens is another restaurant within the resort. It is adjacent to an 18-hole putting course. Bistro on the Greens offers stunning views of Lake Huron, Round Island Lighthouse, and all the horse and bicycle traffic streaming around the island.
This bistro truly encompasses the traditional Mackinac Island feel.
Boxwood Coffee Shop & Cafe
Boxwood Coffee Shop & Cafe is the perfect place to stop when you’re on the go. They offer delicious coffee, snacks, and pre-made sandwiches. They even have beer and wine to go – perfect for a sunny afternoon on the Great Lawn.
Where to Enjoy the Best Mission Point Drinks
There are many places within the resort to enjoy alcoholic drinks, but two places truly hone in on the craft.
Reserve
Reserve is a tasting room inside the resort. Mission Point Resort makes its own Cabernet Sauvignon, Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc, and Blanc de Blancs.
Reserve also offers an amazing selection of fine meats and cheeses to create the perfect charcuterie board. Delicious chocolate morsels and truffles are available as well.

Library Bar
The resort has an expansive library, with multiple fireplaces and cozy seating. Adjacent to the library is a bar with the most extraordinary cocktails. The bar serves everything from fruity, seasonal drinks to traditional cocktails.
Trust me — get the Manhattan and sit by the fire; you’ll feel a pleasant warmth inside and out.

Things to Do at the Resort
Arriving on Mackinac Island comes with high expectations for outdoor activities. Don’t worry because Mission Point offers plenty to do:
It has an 18-hole putting green and bicycle rentals directly on the property.
The Great Lawn offers acres of vibrant grass to run around on or fly kites. Nick, the on-staff dog, chases geese off the lawn to keep it clean and safe.
The resort also offers guided hikes to watch the sunrise. Groups meet (very early!) in the lobby and ascend beautiful bluffs before the town wakes up.
This resort can also hold multiple weddings or large events every weekend. Depending on your venue desires, there are multiple locations to host ceremonies, receptions, or parties.
There’s also a huge fitness center (you know, in case it rains).

Lakeside Spa & Salon
Mission Point strives to offer guests relaxation and wellness, and the Lakeside Spa & Salon is the best Mackinac Island spa.
It is a full spa with lilac facials, massages, and hydrating foot masks. The ‘relaxation room’ contains blissful lounge chairs that are easy to spend hours in.
The Lakeside Spa & Salon also offers a full salon, making it the perfect place to get ready for a big event or fancy dinner.
Plan Your Stay at Mission Point Resort on Mackinac Island
Guests at the resort can feel its history around every corner. What makes it really special is how it blends that rich past with all the comforts and fun you’re looking for in a getaway.
Whether you’re here for a romantic weekend, a family vacation, or just some time to slow down and soak in the scenery, Mission Point makes it easy to unwind.
The resort is both dog-friendly and kid-friendly, so you don’t have to leave anyone behind.
It’s the kind of place where memories are made—and where the beauty of Mackinac Island really shines.

I love Mission Point.I stayed there 2 years ago and will be back this fall. The staff is so wonderful and the grounds are just extraordinary! But I’d have to say my favorite thing is the whitefish :).
