On top of that, South Haven Michigan offers a unique art scene, merry-time hot spots like Captain Lou’s and Idler Riverboat & Dockside, museums, lighthouses, the 34-mile Kal Haven Trail, and spectacular sunsets.

South Haven Hotels & Resorts

Historic Hotel Nichols

Family-owned for over 100 years, the Historic Hotel Nichols has been captivating guests since 1884. Along with its architectural beauty, this almost 20-room destination has an outdoor veranda, made-to-order breakfast, and happy hour every weekend.

In the heart of what South Haven offers, this family and pet-friendly location can accommodate up to eight guests in its Apartment Nichols with three private bedrooms, a living room, and a full kitchen.

Don’t need that much space? You could stay on the second floor that overlooks a rooftop garden, do some people-watching on the lively Williams Street, or enjoy a vintage bathroom — each room with its own story to tell.

Old Harbor Inn

Once the home of the City of South Haven passenger boat, the Old Harbor Inn is on the Black River and features everything nautical — from the Harbor Walk that stretches from one lighthouse to another to the Michigan Maritime Museum.

Though quaint in size, it’s mighty in surprises. Each of its 45 rooms has a fully stocked kitchenette and free Wi-Fi, while some uniquely decorated spaces have fireplaces, private Jacuzzis, and two-person balconies.

Along with the hotel, you can reserve the Pomeroy — the former weigh station of the South Haven Railroad Depot — or one of the two cabooses — original 1920s railcars with attached screened-in porches.

Best and Breakfasts in South Haven Michigan

Waters View Inn Bed & Breakfast

With Lake Michigan and Black Harbor beaches across the street, chef-prepared comfort food, Roku TV streaming and free Wi-Fi, and a morning meal that can be delivered to your door, this bed-and-breakfast is the perfect family-friendly destination.

Run by childhood friends since 2021, the Waters View Inn welcomes all ages and limitless guests to enjoy 16 different types of rooms — from king-size beds with walk-in showers and Jacuzzi tubs to adjoining rooms with garden views.

Martha’s Vineyard Bed & Breakfast

Built in 1852, this Victorian-style South Haven landmark is located on 4 acres of park-like land with its own private vineyard, just minutes from downtown.

Whether you choose to stay in the Main House or the Guesthouse, you’ll have the pick of 12 rooms with fireplaces and private baths, and a few that offer a whirlpool tub and private entrances and porches.

Everyone will enjoy piping-hot meals on antique china and luxurious, warm hospitality. For an even more unforgettable getaway, you can book in-room massages, picnic basket lunches, and rose petal-lined beds.

Inn at the Park Bed & Breakfast

Boasting the largest rooms and suites in South Haven, the Inn at the Park has the first on-site owners in its history. In fact, the husband of the duo is the head breakfast chef and hands-on groundskeeper at the year-round destination.

They bought the painted lady house with antique stained glass and hardwood floors in 2007, and it has a lot of old-world charm. However, it’s actually an architectural youngster, making its debut in the heart of South Haven Michigan in 1996.

Each of the 10 lavish rooms has a fireplace and private bath, along with a whirlpool tub and magnificent views.

Yelton Manor Boutique Hotel B&B

What once was a prestigious resort in the early 1900s is now a modern wonder of period charm. The Yelton Manor is just steps from the beach and South Haven’s nightlife but far enough away for a quiet, relaxing stay.

Choose from 11 rooms in the Manor or six in the Guest House for a one-of-a-kind experience. Some include uniquely shaped Jacuzzis, views of The Secret Garden, or private balconies that give you a front-row perch to brilliant sunsets.

In the morning, have a seat in the dining room, porch, or patio for a farm-to-table, locally grown, cooked-to-order breakfast. But don’t wait to book your stay. Like the seasons themselves, the rooms sell out quickly for this year-round inn.

Owned by two best friends, the Kal-Haven Outpost is unlike any other. Spanning 50 acres along the Kal-Haven Trail, this camping oasis offers a “stay for every style,” including rustic tent camping, RV hookups, cabins, and a fully furnished house.

Plus, there’s a skoolie — a converted school bus with a queen bed — and glamping tents decked out with king beds and other amenities. The campground has a general store and bathhouse with private showers too. Book your mid-April through late October stay, and enjoy a different kind of getaway.

The Fields of Michigan

What happens when you combine a nature connection with the richness of massages, chef-inspired and locally sourced meals, wine tastings and cocktail classes, and glamping? Answer: The Fields of Michigan.

Each 400-square-foot luxury field tent has a king bed, private en suite with a rain-style shower, electricity, fireplace, and portable AC unit, and is situated near an on-site mini-mart, camp kitchen, garden, and hiking trails.

This pet-friendly resort was founded by one of South Haven’s own and is open May through October. But spots book fast for this once-in-a-lifetime experience.

Black River Trails Campground

If you’re a hiker, kayaker, fisherman, or just love the outdoors, Black River Trails Campground may be just the adventure you seek.

Planted next to a waterway and nature preserve not far from golf courses, beaches, wine trails, and all that South Haven offers, it provides a sense of nostalgia. Long before camping got all dressed up, this is what going offline used to be.

Bring along your own tent, small camper, or RV, or stay in one of the rustic cabins with electricity but no bathroom — you have to hoof it to the restroom and separate shower house. Reserve a night under the stars from late May to early September.

Camp S’more South Haven

Want to enjoy a little home away from home? Park your RV for a night, a week, a month, or all season long — May to October — at Camp S’more. You can’t beat this locale for your next beach town escape.

Just minutes from South Haven hot spots like the Kal-Haven Trail and Sherman’s Dairy Bar (a 2022 Travelers’ Choice), this family-owned campground offers events like cornhole tournaments, ladies’ and men’s lunches, potluck breakfasts, and more to create a community with all those who stay.
