Tucked right in the middle of all of it is Kiwidinok Farm in Boyne City Michigan.
This family-owned Tibetian yak and petting farm is family-friendly and a one-of-a-kind Michigan experience that allows visitors to interact with and learn about friendly animals like yaks, sheep, peacocks, alpacas, and more.
This hands-on experience is fun for visitors of all ages, allowing them to socialize with friendly animals as they make lasting, happy memories.
A Hobby Farm Grows into a Northern Michigan Destination
Property owners Jim Dixon and Dawn Dixon purchased the property on which Kiwidinok Farm sits in 2013, looking to return to Jim’s farming roots from his childhood in New Zealand. Over a decade, Jim and Dawn’s hobby farm expanded to include many exotic animals, including Tibetan yaks, lionhead rabbits, Katahdin sheep, peacocks, and more.
The Dixons’ farm — located at 1735 S Wilson Rd in Boyne City — with its collection of exotic animals drew the attention of passersby. Some have stopped along Wilson Road to see the animals. Others have driven down the Dixons’ driveway to inquire about the exotic animals they’ve seen from the road. In 2022, Jim and Dawn decided to open their farm to public tours.

A Friendly Menagerie of Animals
Michigan has many great zoos where visitors can see an expansive collection of animals. But Kiwidinok Farm offers an entirely different experience — one where visitors can have hands-on participation with the animals they see.
Upon arriving, visitors will likely be greeted by a Bourbon Red turkey named Billie Bob, who has been known to join visitors on farm tours. From there, they can pet and feed Katahdin sheep, alpacas, miniature ponies, and many other animals.
This gives visitors young and old a chance to interact with and learn about the animals. The Kiwidinok Farm animals are well-socialized, so every visitor gets to have memorable experiences with them.
Beautiful farm, some of the nicest people on earth that own it. You get a wonderful tour of the farm with lots of information about all the animals. The animals are just as sweet and nice as the owners. We got to pet and feed treats to all of them. You can tell right away that all of the animals are very well cared for and loved. This is a great place to take your kids or just go because you love animals. You will not be disappointed. I will be going back very soon.

Unique Items for Sale
A small, charming on-site gift shop at Kiwidinok Farm offers visitors a chance to purchase many unique gifts inspired by the Tibetan Yak. Believe it or not, the farm also has some yaks for sale too.
Visitors can purchase gourmet yak steaks and stew meat for a unique home culinary experience or buy a yak wool beanie hat that’s perfect for winter. Other artisanal souvenirs are available too, giving visitors a chance to find something to remember their trip by.
Special Events at Kiwidinok Farm
Kiwidinok Farm is a fun spot to visit any time of year, but the farm hosts some special events during the year that make a visit extra special.
In the springtime, the farm comes to life and visitors can travel to Kiwidinok Farm for the Babies on the Farm Festival. This gives visitors a front-row seat to meet the farm’s newest (and furriest) members of the family as they eat, learn, and play with their owners.
The festival typically runs from mid-March to mid-April and allows visitors to cuddle young yaks, kid goats, baby lambs, baby chicks, and many other animals. Not only do guests get a personal experience, but it’s an exciting experience too as they see and interact with young animals.
In the winter, Kiwidinok hosts Christmas on the Tibetan Yak Farm where the Northern Michigan countryside comes alive with holiday spirit. Visitors can enjoy interacting, feeding, and petting the farm’s animals, sipping cocoa, and taking fun family holiday photos.
