Social Michigan Merges with The Awesome Mitten
SocialMichigan.com, an online product that aims to bring social media events in Michigan together with communities, will be combining with The Awesome Mitten, a website that strives to discover the “awesome” elements of Michigan, in early 2012.
Erik Granning, founder of Social Michigan, will become a member of The Awesome Mitten team as the Events Promotion Director.
“With the niche group that Social Michigan has catered to during the last year, I see the merger with The Awesome Mitten as a great opportunity to offer the same amount of connection across the state, but to a much larger audience,” said Granning. “I hope to see more organizations and groups share their events with The Awesome Mitten as we integrate our sites so that more Michiganders come together for a common purpose.”
This merger will bring a close to Social Michigan. However, it will not end Social Michigan’s goals and mission. Merging with The Awesome Mitten will help grow Social Michigan’s initial focus beyond aggregating and promoting social events. Examples of social events include tweetups, conferences, social media organization’s meetings and events, Foursquare meetups, etc. Additionally, the merger will boost The Awesome Mitten’s events calendar to include more events from across the state.

The Awesome Mitten’s first campaign, 365 Days of Awesome, launched the company in June 2011 and continues to provide a new feature every day that showcases the many awesome businesses, people, places, music, and events throughout Michigan.
