The oldest aquarium in the nation is located on Belle Isle in Detroit. It opened in 1904 but closed down in 2005. After extensive renovations, the aquarium re-opened in 2012 and has welcomed thousands of visitors for free since its re-opening.
For true history buffs, the River Raisin National Battlefield Park is one of a few national battlefield parks in the National Park System. In fact, it’s the only one from the War of 1812.
The trail has more than a dozen access points and takes riders past the Michigan State University campus, Potter Park Zoo, and other points of interest. That makes it easy to make the trip as short or as long as you want.
