As we’re reaching the end of fall, we’re also coming to the end of Michigan apples for the year. Everyone it out grabbing their last batch of apples from their favorite orchard. Pull out your flannels, slip on those rain boots, and get ready for apple picking! Michigan boasts 18 varieties of locally-grown apples, ripe for picking this time of year.

After you’ve picked your heart out, what do you do with your new bounty? I’ve got some suggestions. Follow these recipes to make mouth-watering dishes that will put your new apple stock to good use.

    Apple Baked Bean Casserole

This one is a personal favorite. A good addition to Thanksgiving (or any) dinner, this filling casserole strikes the perfect balance between savory and sweet. The best Michigan apples to use in this dish are Gala, McIntosh, and Golden Delicious. There are many varieties of this dish, each being slightly different. Try this Paula Deen recipe to start, and then customize ingredients according to your taste.

There’s something in these nachos for everyone! Best apples to use here: Ida Red, Rome, or Jonathan.
