Grab lunch At The Sweetwater Cafe in Marquette!

sweetwater cafe 3A complaint I hear often in the Upper Peninsula is that we have a lack of variety in our food choices. I’m here to tell you that while we do not have the variety that Chicago or Detroit may have, we do have choices! And at Sweetwater Café in downtown Marquette, we have many deliciously healthy choices.

Gluten free? Vegan? Vegetarian? Health conscious? Just plain hungry? This is the place to go!

The term ‘farm-to-table’ is used broadly in advertisements to try and promote health and lack of preservatives. At Sweetwater, they really mean it. Last year, 23% of their grocery budget went to Upper Peninsula farms. Their chicken comes from Manistique, maple syrup comes from Bark River, eggs come from Skandia and whitefish straight from Lake Superior. Not to mention all their bread is baked in-house! No trans-fat, artificial coloring or flavors, MSG, or preservatives are ever used in their food and it’s all cooked from scratch.

While a lot of things aren’t in their food, they add plenty of ingredients that make it taste simply wonderful. A full breakfast menu filled with omelets, sandwiches and even a breakfast Cobb salad is served everyday until 3pm. Lunch is served all day, with plenty sweetwater cafe 1of options to satisfy your cravings—from chicken pesto sandwiches, to ginger stir fry. Dinner is served Wednesday thru Sunday and has both delicious vegetarian as well as meat lovers’ options. Many dishes can be prepared vegan and there is a separate menu for gluten free & children friendly options! And if you want to have a drink, Sweetwater has a great selection of wines, beers, cocktails and spirits (some options are also from Michigan!).

My experience at Sweetwater Café

Although I’ve always heard great reviews of this restaurant, it took me nearly two years to visit. Now, I’m regretting that it took me so long! I went for a late breakfast/early lunch and it took me forever to decide what I wanted to eat—it all looked so good! I finally decided on the Spicy Cajun Chicken Melt, made on their fresh bread with a homemade tahini sauce—amazing! Just the perfect amount of flavoring. I cannot wait to go again and try something new (or maybe even the same dish).

Bottom Line: When you think you’ve exhausted all of your restaurant options in Marquette, think again. Sweetwater Café is the perfect choice for flavorful yet healthy food.
