Music Mondays: Stepdad

If you’ve never heard of Stepdad, you’re in a for a treat.  Hailing from Grand Rapids, Michigan these Michigan natives are taking the indie pop scene by storm and they have no intention of stopping.  If you’re a fan of electric, keys, noise, catchy lyrics, being different, and the occasional high pitched male vocals, with one listen of Stepdad, you’ll be hooked.  Back in January, I heard their song “Jungles” on Central Michigan University’s radio station Modern Rock 91.5 on the show Indie Queens and knew they were a hit.  Take a listen to their songs “Jungles” and “My Leather, My Fur, My Nails” below.

With their eight song EP “Ordinaire” release last year, they have been catching the ears of those in the music major leagues.  This past June they were able raise the money to go out to New York for a full month and record their full length album titled Wildlife Pop, with producer Chris Zane (Zane is most known for his work with Passion Pit, The Walkmen, and Les Savy Fav).  Keep an eye out for the Wildlife Pop release in early 2012.  Stepdad will be re-releasing Ordinaire EP on Quite Scientific Records September 6th with two new songs.

Catch Stepdad on the line-up at Midwest Fest September 28th – October 1st in Mount Pleasant, Michigan, along side many other fantastic Midwest artists. Get your tickets HERE!
