If you are a dog lover, you know it is imperative to get your pet a souvenir while on vacation. We all do it. However, it can be difficult to find an item that is just right for your beloved companion’s unique personality. Fortunately, Rachel Tompkins and Lauren Maxwell are here to solve your pup apparel problems. On November 7th, 2014, Pup North launched a delightful line of products with a variety of designs that can meet any dog’s style.

Tompkins and Maxwell founded Pup North when they discovered their mutual love for Northern Michigan and dogs. Both of these ladies have a background in advertising and work together in marketing. They both love the work they do, but together, they recognized a trend here in Michigan; many of us have dogs, and those dogs love the outdoor adventures this area has to offer. Whether you live here full-time or just happen to vacation here, you know your pet would look great in one of these bandanas.

Personally, I have three dogs. As is true with all dogs, their personalities are extremely unique. Pup North has bandannas that cater to each of their personalities. Ozzy the chihuahua is extremely cuddly and can always be found on the warmest lap of the house. The “First Mate” bandanna is absolutely perfect for him. Martin the beagle prefers life outside and is ecstatic over the snow accumulation we have right now. The “Ruffin It” bandana is ideal for him. And then there is Moose. As a chihuahua/rottweiler mix (true story), Moose is fat, lazy, and exceptionally happy. The traditional “paw” bandana would look great against his dark fur.

Plans for Pup North’s future include being integrated into local shops. In fact, this delightful duo even shared with me that they want local drinking joints to sell the “drink local” bandana. As pet lovers, I think we all feel guilty when we go somewhere that our dogs are not allowed. Now, while enjoying your favorite beverage, you can scoop up a bandanna so your dog knows you were thinking about him while you were out (because let’s be honest, you know you were).

Tompkins and Maxwell have created a tier system for the release of new items. These include more bandannas, shirts, stickers, and more. Be sure to keep up with their Facebook page, Twitter, and website to see what is presently available and what is about to be released.

AND for a limited time only, the Michigan paw bandana is available in The Awesome Mitten’s Holiday Popup Shop along with other fantastic Michigan made gifts!

Michigan has amazing people, delicious beer, and unlimited outdoor activities to participate in. One thing I have noticed about our mitten state is that no matter which city I am in, those factors do not change. I am a therapist by day and an explorer of all things Michigan the rest of the time.
