March 14th marks the celebration of Pi Day, also known as an excuse to eat pie and all other circular sweets in appreciation for the mathematic constant, 3.14159265359. But really, forget the math, this day is just another fantastic excuse to indulge in as much pie as possible.

Here in the Mitten, we have several opportunities to enjoy a fantastic slice of pie. There are new and innovative flavors and our classic favorites. We’ve listed 5 of our favorites places to get pie below for you to check out (and maybe even enjoy a free slice!) Let us know if we missed your favorite!

    Achatz Handmade Pie Co.

Gaining popularity over the last couple of years, this family owned gem will satisfy your pie craving in no time. Achatz Handmade Pie Co. has  various locations around the Metro-Detroit area. Additionally, they have plans to franchise more throughout the state. Achatz is your spot for a fantastic pie. We love them because of the flaky pie crust and the incredibly sweet and savory flavors. Looking for an adventurous flavor? We suggest the Cannoli Cream pie. P.S. Slices of pies will be available for $3.14 all day on Pi Day at Achatz locations!

Located in Fenton with appearances at the Flint Farmers Market, Crust: A Baking Company is a longtime favorite. You may have seen their pastries served at cafes and markets all around. Their Fenton location houses an entire selection of their many delicious pies and other various sweets. Be sure to ask about their season varieties!

They’re also great about accommodating various dietary restrictions. Also, if you’re completely sold after your first slice, they offer baking classes! Stop in their Detroit storefront or order online for all your Pi Day needs.

     Grand Traverse Pie Company

A long time favorite of the Awesome Mitten community, there are so many reasons to love Grand Traverse Pie Company. One main reason is their many locations on every corner of the lower peninsula and their overall appreciation for the Mitten.
