Parallel 45, a professional theatre company based in northern Michigan, will put their signature spin on the long-running, late-night hit Too Much Light Makes the Baby Go Blind by the Neo-Futurists July 25 and 26 at the InsideOut Gallery in Traverse City.

P45’s professional actors come from careers in Minneapolis, Berlin, Pittsburgh, Chicago and Los Angeles to race against the clock to perform 30 miniature plays in 60 minutes. With a menu of vignettes ranging from zany to profound, it’s the perfect interactive summer treat for Traverse City’s adventurous audience.

An underground favorite in NYC and Chicago (where it is currently in its 25th year and the longest-running show in that city), TMLMBGB will run 60 minutes with no intermission. This rapid-fire production is the perfect kick-off to Parallel 45’s high energy Fifth Anniversary Season.

Under the direction of Parallel 45’s Artistic Director, Kit McKay, actors will master all 60 plays micro-plays, but not in any particular order. The audience will spontaneously determine the order in which the plays are performed during the show. This—and many other quirks—adds to the energy, risk and fun of this groundbreaking show. In addition to McKay’s directorial work, 4 guest directors will contribute their vision to a selection of the night’s 30 plays.

Too Much Light was conceived by the Neo-Futurists, a Chicago-based theatre company whose work is based on “honesty, speed and brevity.” Unlike the theatre’s typical goal of the audience’s “suspension of disbelief”, the Neo-Futurist style is “non-illusory,” meaning that nothing is pretended and actors only play themselves. Rather than taking the audience somewhere else in time and place, they ask them to focus on what is happening in the specific present moment.

Tickets for Too Much Light can be purchased at the door beginning at 8pm, but reservations are required in advance, as space is limited. Ticket prices range from $10 to $15 and are determined by a roll of the dice on-site. Cash, checks and credit cards will be accepted at the door. Curtain is at 9pm but patrons are encouraged to arrive early.

To secure your “reservation to roll the dice” visit or call MyNorth Tickets at: 800.836.0711.
