Mid-August has arrived and in Northern Michigan terms, that means it is time for the fourth annual Paella in the Park. In addition to Paella in the Park, Porterhouse Productions is happily producing an insane weekend of events in Traverse City, including the second annual Great Wakes Festival and TC Waterman Stand Up Paddle Board Nationals, which will be headlined by the band Ozomatli. So once again, fun lovers, it’s time to hike those excited pants up and get ready for a weekend full of awesome events.

Paella in the Park takes place this Friday, August 16th, from 5-11PM. Local craft beer, spirits, and wines from the wineries on Old Mission Peninsula will be paired with Spanish paellas created on-site by regional chefs from local restaurants. Paella is a rice-based dish that can be made hundreds of different ways, depending on the chef and the ingredients. Each winery will feature a station that will present 36″ pans that the chefs will cook paella in, using various wines from the individual wineries and other local, fresh ingredients. The chefs creating the paella will each put their own spin on the dish and festival goers will have a chance to chat with the chefs about their marvelous creations.

For the first time this year, Paella in the Park will be featuring a craft beer bar along with a Bloody Mary Bar featuring Bloody Mary mix from McClure’s Farmer’s Market. There will also be live music from the Cuban Orchestra, Grupo Aye, the reggae band, The Resolvers, champion beat-boxer, Heatbox, the Younce Guitar Duo, and Jason Divad, the unicycling, juggling, fire-twirling star.

 

Clearly, this is not something that can be missed. Tickets can be purchased online for $30 or at the door for $35. Tickets include a souvenir wine glass, five wine pour tokens, three 4-ounce servings of paella, and all the music and entertainment you can soak in. Additional food and drink tickets can be purchased at the event as well, because we all know that the paella will be so scrumptious that three servings just won’t be enough.
