Peace out, Hershey’s! Waterstreet Coffee Roaster products have always been high quality and crafted with Kalamazoo love, but recently the company decided to ditch the chocolate sauce that they normally purchased and make their own signature version. I sat down with Waterstreet’s Catering and Foral Director, Jessica Del Vacchio, to get the scoop on their new Chocolate Sauce, specials for the winter season, and fun things to come.
What’s the 411 on the chocolate sauce? It is made in small batches in-house with high-quality Dutched Cocoa Powder and not a trace of artificial flavors, high fructose corn syrup, or preservatives. It is made simple and real; just like everything that Waterstreet crafts for their customers. I always leave feeling like I ate and drank things that were real and well loved.
On my adventure to Waterstreet, I tried three drinks with the new chocolate sauce: Mocha, Peppermint Mocha, and Hot Chocolate. All of them were delicious and chocolaty, but they didn’t follow with an aggressive sugar rush. It was quite pleasant to drink a chocolate-powered drink that tasted like real chocolate.
The hot chocolate was classic. Tasted just like I jumped right back into my childhood home after playing in several feet of snow all morning. The peppermint mocha tasted like I dipped my candy cane into chocolate, just a heavy hint of peppermint, not so much that you feel like you ate a mint. The mocha was my favorite; it was such a smooth rich chocolate taste. Moral of the chocolate sauce story: you can taste the attention to detail they put into the sauce, it is a welcomed switch! #DrinkLocal
P.S. I couldn’t help but try a couple of holiday treats while I was already in the store. Besides the peppermint mocha they also have an Egg Nog Latte (hot or cold!) and a Maple Pecan Latte. I’m not a huge egg nog fan, but if you are, get after it! On the other hand I was in love with the Maple Pecan Latte. I felt like I was drinking a pancake breakfast – it is as tasty on your tongue as it is in your eyes!
P.P.S. Did you know that another Waterstreet cafe location is set to open in January 2015?? The new location will be in Portage, Michigan at the Portage Centre Plaza on the corner of Shaver Rd. and Centre Ave. It will be everything you like about the downtown and Oakland cafés PLUS a drive-thru and slow bar with individually brewed cups.
