Mittenfest, an annual music festival to raise funds for 826michigan, a non-profit organization dedicated to supporting young students with
their writing skills, closed out 2013 with style. The festival brought together 40 hip-hop, indie and alternative rock musicians from across Michigan over five days. Artists such as Matt Jones of Ypsilanti took the stage with Misty Lyn Bergeron and his string based band. They brought an enjoyable folk sound to the second night of the festival where close to 100 people were in attendance.
In addition to the music, the festival hosted live painting by artists of Community Rebirth, a community organization that advocates for visual artists. The paintings created each evening were then put on display as part of a silent auction where funds went towards 826michigan.
All together, over the course of the five days of Mittenfest, 826michigan was able to raise over $25,000. The funds will help the organization to continue to grow from the already 2,701 students that have participated in their programing.
