Michgan’s Awesome Potters Market
It is rare to find such a vast and impressive display of pottery prowess in one easily accessible location–especially with free admission! Lucky for you, art lovers, one of the largest pottery shows in the country can be enjoyed in our very own Awesome Mitten.
Southfield is hosting the 39th Annual Potters Market at the Southfield Pavilion on Evergreen Road, from December 5-7, with a special preview showing on Thursday, December 4. With over 8,000 visitors in 2013 and a new, bigger location, the Potters Market expects an even larger turn out this year. More than 100 potters and sculptors from our Awesome Mitten and the surrounding area will be displaying their pieces. Artists include Debra Burr, a functional (pottery created with intended use, such as vessels or mugs) potter at Whiskey Point Pottery, Stan Baker, a raku (low-fire pottery, generally decorative in nature) potter at Highers Pottery Studio, Thomas and Sarah Gelsanliter, tile ceramicists (potters whose pieces are sculpted with potter’s clay that are fired to be made permanent) at One Acre Ceramics, and so many more.
Ranging from functional to non-functional, large to small in scale, and in every media and style you can imagine, raku, porcelain, and stoneware mugs, vases, tea pots, tiles, frames, jewelry and much, much more will be available for your holiday shopping needs.
Doors to the 17,000 square foot show room open from 2pm to 9pm on Friday, December 5, 9am to 6pm on Saturday, December 6, and 10am to 5pm on Sunday, December 7, with free admission all three days. A special preview showing is being held on Thursday, December 4, from 6pm to 9pm with a $10 admission fee.
