November Events to Welcome the Holidays in Michigan

The month of November is the beginning of bringing together family and friends for special memories shared with food, drink, and festive gatherings. As the holidays grow closer, these November events will fill your days with warmth and provide you many more reasons to  be thankful. Run a race or two, taste craft beers and wine, or shop for homemade gifts and more because these events will  give you plenty of reasons to celebrate being together.

Traverse City Beer Week: Traverse City, November 11-17

This week long event of beer tastings might turn you into a craft beer snob. Along with many varieties of beer to try, there will be dinners and workshops that celebrate Traverse City’s excellent craft beer scene. The event takes place at numerous spots throughout the city, such as breweries, restaurants, and local shops. These beer themed events will be engaging and teach you about the craft beer movement. You will even gain some food and beer pairing tips! More information can be found on the Traverse City tourism website.

Ribbons & Bows Arts and Crafts Show: Grand Rapids, November 12

Start your Christmas shopping a little early this year at the Ribbons & Bows Arts and Crafts Show at Aquinas College. Delight your family and friends with handmade gifts like mittens and scarves, quilts, jewelry, pottery, or anything and everything in between. Anyone artsy will surely enjoy this event that will surely put you in the holiday spirit. Running from 9 AM to 3 PM, this event has  a $1.00 admission fee for adults, but children are free.

The Great Beerd Run: Acme, November 12

What better way to celebrate No Shave November than with a 5k dedicated to beer and the bearded? This event is for bearded men and ladies alike. It is an untimed run on course with beer tastings from Beard’s, Short’s, and Right Brain breweries. With a registration fee of $40, participants receive a knitted beard beanie, a bottle opener/race medal, 3 beer samples, and one glass of beer during the post-race party. Prizes will be awarded for the fastest runners along with prizes for the best natural and assisted beards.

Detroit Tree Lighting Ceremony: Detroit, November 18

Gather with your loved ones in Downtown Detroit’s Campus Martius Park for the annual Tree Lighting Ceremony. Join in and count down the seconds until you witness the brilliant bright Christmas lights that illuminate the city. You and your family will surely be filled with holiday cheer at this festive and classic November event. The lit up, 60-foot tall, elaborately decorated Christmas tree at the heart of Detroit is something you don’t want to miss. Afterward, relish the beauty and ice skate in the city’s outdoor rink.

America’s Thanksgiving Parade: Detroit, November 24

How could we celebrate turkey day without the familiar tradition of a Thanksgiving Day parade? Colorful floats, marching bands, and balloons signal the day of thanks, and the ever-nearing arrival of the holiday season. America’s Thanksgiving Day Parade in Detroit is the second oldest in the country. This festive celebration will make this the best Thanksgiving yet!

Holiday Celebration & Candle Walk: Frankenmuth, November 25

Pay the quaint town of Frankenmuth a visit for this fun and festive event. At 6 PM in the River Place Shops, begin your holiday season with free hot chocolate, cookies, and Christmas carols. There will be a candle walk from River Place to Chamber Platz for the annual lighting of the town Christmas tree at the Visitors’ Center. Santa Claus may even stop by the pavilion for a visit! Finally, why not visit Bronner’s afterward to soak up all of that Christmas spirit?
