While at first glance people might think that Live Love Michigan is the same as any other t-shirt company, upon digging deeper, one will be pleasantly surprised by how different they really are. Live Love Michigan’s catch-line, “Softer than Most Kittens” is a fact; and owner, Jacob Prusakiewicz, is certain to make this stand up for every shirt.
The original tag-line read, “Softer than Kittens,” however, Prusakiewicz was called out by a lady who said the kitten she had at home was as soft as silk. Prusakiewicz knew he couldn’t compete with an exceptionally soft kitten and promptly added the ever so important word, “most.” In order to achieve such desired softness, Live Love Michigan only prints on apparel that is 100% ring-spun combed cotton, or a blend of it. Prusakiewicz explained that when cotton is picked, it goes through a process called “carding” before it is spun. This removes tangles from the fiber. Some cotton goes through an extra process called “combing,” which aligns the fibers for an extra smooth fabric and thread.
Live Love Michigan’s extra soft clothing items are a hit. Prusakiewicz currently prints all of the items in his own home, and is looking to expand early on in 2014. All the shirts are sourced from two brands: Alternative Apparel and Bella+Canvas. Live Love Michigan chose these because these brands are “known for their retail quality and fashion forward cuts,” Prusakiewicz stated. Both of these companies have clothing mills in the United States and abroad, and Prusakiewicz tries to source as many of his products within the United States as possible.
Prusakiewicz mentioned that Live Love Michigan is also extremely different from the competition because of their “Hold on to Hope” campaign. Live Love Michigan’s mission has nothing to do with being the trendiest or most popular company out there; they want to give back by sharing many of the blessings they’ve encountered. They aim to stir up pride among Michigan lovers by essentially sporting wearable billboards.
This month’s “Hold on to Hope” campaign is for the organization, Life as a Zebra. This organization was created to raise awareness for invisible illnesses. Often people are diagnosed with something based on what it “most likely” is, without further investigating other possible illnesses with similar symptoms. The “zebra” aspect comes from the fact that when someone hears a hoofbeat, it is assumed that it is a horse making the noise. However, “zebras make hoofbeats too,” which is Life as a Zebra’s catchphrase.
Prusakiewicz stated, “as we continue on in our journey we promise to keep evolving with you.” That way, everyone is growing together. Whatever your Live Love Michigan needs are, Prusakiewicz and his team will be there to work with you and fulfill your apparel needs.
