The importance of expanding the residency in Detroit in an effort to revive the city has not escaped the attention of some of the larger businesses located in Downtown Detroit. To help in the process of improving residency, six companies have committed to provide $20,000 to employees who would like to purchase a home in Greater Downtown Detroit. Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan, Compuware, DTE Energy, Marketing Associates, Quicken Loans, and Strategic Staffing Solutions are all enthusiastically encouraging their employees to become integrated members of Downtown Detroit. In celebration, these six companies participate in the Live Downtown Games from July 21 to July 24, 2014.

The Live Downtown Games are in their third year and gathering momentum. The games are an opportunity for employees of all six companies to join in a week-long program of activities geared toward the celebration of Detroit and acquiring new residents in the target Live Downtown neighborhoods. Events include field day, ping pong, philanthropy day, scavenger hunt, volleyball, and more – each with the goal of unifying the teams and the companies through friendly competition. If Detroiters are not members of these teams, they are more than welcome to attend almost all of the events and are encouraged to get into the spirit of the games.

I was raised in vacation-land, Traverse City, where I was one of the lucky ones to enjoy the beach in the summer and snowboard through the winters. Then, I went to college and lived in East Lansing and Lansing, where I learned about sports and getting things done. Now I'm quite honestly falling head over heels for Detroit. I solemnly believe that life is too short for bad coffee, yucky wine, and poorly crafted beer. This means that Michigan is the perfect place for me! My spare time is spent reading or exploring the outdoors. E-mail me: joanna@awesomemitten.com.
