There are only a handful of things Michiganders appreciate more than craft beer and summer’s at the beach and local art is one of them! The Mitten is home to a plethora of talented local artists that make their work accessible to everyone by hosting art shows, attending art fairs and displaying their work in our coffee shops but the Kalamazoo Garage Sale Art Fair might be one of the better places to check out (and purchase) some local art.
The 19th annual Garage Sale Art Fair is set to take place on Saturday, February 28 at the Kalamazoo Expo Center and Fairgrounds. Doors will be open from 9:30am to 4:00pm, with a $5 entry fee for adults and free admission for small children.
Local artists and other regional craftspeople will be selling their overstocked work, as well as their surplus supplies. Media ranges from glass, clay, painting, clothing, wood, and jewelry—and much more! Artists include Sam Machulis, a functional clay sculptor, Joelle Medici, a fiber artist, and Valerie Houck-VanSandt, a non-metal jeweler.
Come hungry because the event is event is catered! Don’t worry about lugging your winter coat around and don’t get tired carrying around all of your purchases-they will have a coat and package check available for your convenience!
Festival coordinators Michael Kifer and Bonnie Blandford produce art fairs around the country, advise event goers to “Come early for the best selection. Come back later for the best deals!” Keep in mind, this is a “garage sale,” so it’s always a good idea to bring cash, although some vendors will accept checks and/or credit cards.
