It’s that time of year again. The transition from summer to fall has begun. There’s a slight crispness to air that wasn’t evident last week and it may be time to unpack your cold weather attire. Will you opt for jeans and sweaters? Or maybe something a little more unique? Just in time for the new semester and the change of wardrobe is the Indie Arts & Vintage Marketplace.
Friends and fellow vintage vendors/lovers Jessica Wolf, Amber Nicole Baker and Madeline Goodman created the event located on Northern Michigan University’s campus. The enthusiastic trio is hoping to expose students and the community to up-and-coming and well-established vintage vendors and local artists while providing entertainment and holistic health information.
The market will showcase independent artists, craftspeople and vendors from the Marquette area. Featured merchants include Dharma Threads Vintage, Dusty Luck Vintage, Vere de Vere Vintage, Ace of Pentacles Tarot, Northern Sole, String Art Incident, PeaceSHINE, Herbal Oasis, and Hempy’s. Reflexologist Chloe Klopotek will be present, as well as live music from members of Upper Peninsula band Eclettico and Emily Bianchi. Much of the clothing is vintage, with some vendors specializing in upcycling or refashioning the original piece; for example: adding funky fabric to a blazer or altering a hem on a skirt.
The Indie Arts & Vintage Marketplace will be held on the second floor of the University Center on NMU’s campus, in the Great Lakes Room, on Friday, September 6, from 4 p.m. to 9 p.m.
More information can be found on the Indies Arts & Vintage Marketplace Facebook event page and by contacting Amber Baker at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Grab your friends and head to the Indie Arts & Vintage Marketplace to acquire an outfit sure to help you stand out this semester, or a couple pieces of art for your dorm or home while you’re there!
