Autumn is coming up fast in Grand Rapids and that means that it’s just about time for the 2nd annual Hoptoberfest! This particular fall beer and music festival offers ticketholders a day and a half celebration of Michigan brews accompanied by live “sophistafunk” music. Hoptoberfest will take place downtown Grand Rapids, on Ionia Street between Weston and Oakes.
Hoptoberfest tickets are only $10 (advance tickets) -$15 (at the door). “Tickets include a full day of music from nationally-known acts like Fishbone and Ivan Neville’s Dumpstaphunk, free brunch the next morning, and the chance to party with in an outdoor environment with thousands of other people,” mentions Shane Phillipsen, of BarFly Events.
Last year’s festival drew in about 3,500 people and this year attendance is expected to be over 6,000.
There will be some musical differences between this year and last year. “Last years line up, we had a blues-oriented music lineup. This year, we’re doing more high energy funk as well as some reggae and hip hop. Music to dance to while you sip on your beer.” Some of the musical groups include: The Ark Band, Funktion, and Otis.
“Everyone coming together to celebrate Michigan craft beer and live music in a fun, safe environment outdoors. It’s not often in Grand Rapids that you’re allowed to walk around on the street with a beer in your hand, listening to live music. It’s a cool experience,” says Phillipsen.
Along with the Michigan microbrews, there will be a “food pavilion featuring tacos and other food items” (no outside food is permitted). If guests wish to be able to sit during the festival, please bring your own chairs.
Come down to Grand Rapids on September 15 to enjoy some Michigan microbrews and dance to some great bands!
Tickets can be purchased in advance via www.ticketweb.com or at HopCat, McFadden’s, Stella’s Lounge, and The Viceroy (they will also be available the day of the event). For more information on the festival, please visit the Facebook page, the event website, or take a look at the poster.
