The Grand Traverse Commons are a staple in Traverse City. Not only are the buildings and the surrounding land full of history and exceptional tales, but there are miles of hiking trails, beautiful artisan shops, and unparalleled dining.

If you have yet to fully experience everything the Grand Traverse Commons has to offer, First Fridays is the perfect opportunity to dabble in a little bit of everything. First Fridays occurs monthly on the first Friday of every month. There is live music, samples, dining and beverage specials, and unlimited exploring available.

A full list of everything available at the Grand Traverse Commons is available on their website, however, with such a large variety to choose from, it can be a little overwhelming. However, here are a few of the key spots I insist must be visited:

The urban winery and tasting room offers live music every First Friday. It is impossible to decide whether their wine or cider is best. Fortunately, flights of six are available for a mere $5, creating the perfect opportunity to sample a little of everything.

    TASTES of Black Star Farms

This quaint tasting room is cozy and intimate, offering samples and bottles of Black Star Farms’ brandies and wines. Additionally, small plates are available to pair with the wines for a great way to kick off the evening.

Mediterranean cuisine found right in the halls of a former asylum; it’s perfect. There is nothing more satisfying than enjoying a fine local wine while feasting on hand selected, artisan meats and breads. (First-hand accounts state that the cheese is delectable as well, but I’m not much of a cheese lady, so I haven’t personally dabbled). Oh yes, you’ll need to hike the trails in the area before and after a visit to First Fridays.

And of course, the retail shops. Swing into High Five Threads for a craft beer to sample while browsing their Michigan-made and Michigan-inspired apparel. One of a Kind Cycle is just down the hallway, where you can get a custom-made bicycle created, get all of your cycling questions answered, or simply admire their handiwork. For the elegantly bedazzled, Silver Fox Jewelry offers everything you need to accessorize your life. Unique coffee mugs, earrings, and purses are available for your gazing and purchasing pleasure.

This is just a minor preview of everything hidden inside the Grand Traverse Commons. There is a retail store, restaurant, and adventure available for everyone. Scoot on down there for First Fridays and sample a little of everything for yourself.
