Faster Horses Festival: Michigan’s Party of the Summer

Boasting the alias “The Party of the Summer,” Michigan’s Faster Horses Festival lived up to its name as it took over Brooklyn the weekend of July 15-17, 2016. Featuring three days of country music, camping, and partying, it brought in fans from not only all over the Mitten State, but also around the country. Performers raved about the festival, which brought pride to the event that has been going strong every summer at Michigan International Speedway since 2013.

The weekend kicked off on Thursday night with a campfire party before heading into three days of music and partying at the concert venue and the multiple campgrounds set up for attendees in Michigan’s Irish Hills. The Budweiser Campfire Kickoff featured performances by LOCASH, as well as country artists who originated from Michigan: Audrey Ray, Bear Creek Brothers, Matt Austin, and Paulina Jayne.

In addition to the music, fans were able to enjoy an array of other activities, including a giant waterslide, carnival rides, go-karts, and a foam party, complete with a DJ to entertain. A quick walk around the festival grounds was filled with the sights of plenty of red, white, and blue, beer, and cowboy boots.

Attendees could also enjoy a variety of food trucks, most locally owned, and spend their money on plenty of souvenirs, most notably the Made in Michigan Marketplace, which was new to the festival this year. Available were multiple local breweries and handmade craft items among a multitude of other items. One that especially caught the eye was License Plate Heaven, featuring signs made from old license plates, spelling out everything from “u need a beer” to “Detroit” and “Michigan.” The best, though, were the license plates shaped like Michigan.
