Detroit Restaurant Week

Here at the Awesome Mitten, we love Detroit Restaurant Week. We’ve featured the event before (last fall and last spring) and have also featured several of the restaurants that have become crowd favorites on the Detroit Restaurant Week list of participants (including The Whitney, Cliff Bell’s, The Rattlesnake Club, La Dolce Vita, and Roma Cafe). And the commencement of spring brings with it another edition of restaurant week, taking place Friday, April 11th through Sunday, April 20th in the Motor City.

Created in 2009, and now in its tenth engagement, Detroit Restaurant Week offers diners the opportunity to experience three-courses of fine dining cuisine at some of the Motor City’s premier establishments without breaking the bank. Presented once again by Shinola (the Detroit-based manufacturer responsible for not only premium watches and bicycles, but also the beautiful new clocks around the Motor City), and sponsored by Quicken Loans and Opportunity Detroit, Detroit Restaurant Week is an event that not only takes place in the Motor City, but is also supported by the establishments of the Motor City.

In addition to being sponsored by some quintessential Detroit companies, Detroit Restaurant Week also supports the businesses of the city. The inexpensive dining options have drawn hundreds of thousands of individuals to Motown, generating over 5.5 million dollars in sales for participating restaurants alone. Which is a feat, considering how modestly priced Restaurant Week meals are. In the past, three-course dinners have been $30 (excluding beverages, tax, and tip); this year, dinners will be even more affordable, ranging from $20 to $30 per person depending on restaurant.

And the list of participating restaurants is just as impressive as in years past. This year’s locations include old favorites and exciting new options. They are:

Hi, all! A few years ago, I was fortunate enough to meet Awesome Mitten creator Alex Beaton at one of my favorite Michigan landmarks: Michigan State University. Aside from my indulging Spartan roots with trips to East Lansing, I spend most of my time watching movies, cooking, hanging out with my family, and counting down the days until summer, when I can spend a few more days on any of the beautiful lakes of Michigan.
