Mother’s Day is just around the corner and, this year, it’s time to get crafty. The Green Room’s Terrarium Bar is an excellent way to get your mom the floral arrangement she’d  love while having fun and being part of the creation. Located in Traverse City’s Warehouse District on Garland Street (right next to Right Brain Brewery), The Green Room is a beautifully unique work and retail space is unlike anything I have ever seen. Megan Kellogg and Derek Woodruff created this one-of-a-kind combination of terrarium bar and flower shop to let the public get a hands-on approach to their decorating and floral needs.

Woodruff started The Floral Underground in 2008 after a lifelong passion for design, plants, and flowers. He studied floral design at the Jackson Area Career Center, Lansing Community College, and Michigan State University. He has earned an abundance of awards for his work and personally designs every detail of the arrangements created at The Floral Underground. Weddings and other events are his specialty, where arrangements can either be custom made or selected from his gallery.

Kellogg handles more of the terrarium bar aspect of the business. Commonly known in Traverse City as the “Avant Gardener,” Kellogg aspired to create a more hands-on approach to people’s plant and floral needs. Whether you are looking for a great gift for someone or a creative way to spend your afternoon, you are in good hands with Kellogg’s green thumb and artistic taste.

Upon stepping into Green Room’s Terrarium Bar, you are presented with an abundance of options. First of all, it is important to know that you can bring your own container to build your terrarium in or you can select one upon arrival. Green Room’s Terrarium Bar has a huge selection of differently shaped and sized containers to choose from. After selecting what you want to build your terrarium in, it’s time to start adding to it. There are an abundance of plants, flowers, rocks, gems, and different little decorations to choose from. These items are all individually priced and are located in every nook and cranny throughout the store. The possibilities are literally endless. Nothing in the store is off limits and sifting through all the different colored stones and gems is comparable to that of a treasure hunt.

Visit Green Room’s Terrarium Bar’s Facebook Page or Derek’s website to look through the beautiful photographs of all the different floral designs and terrarium bar setups that have been created. Walk-ins are welcome or call ahead at 231.421.8440 to make an appointment. In the words of Kellogg, “Come play!” Their hours are Tuesday – Friday 9:00AM-6:00PM and Saturday from 11:00AM – 7:00PM.
