Enjoy great beverages, good company, live entertainment and supporting Michigan made products? Well we sure do have an event for you!
Drink Michigan first stared in July of 2010 by partners Audrey Walker and Trisha Verma. They both always loved to drink Michigan-made beer, wine and spirits but noticed the lack of promotion of the industry. So the idea of Drink Michigan was born. Its purpose is to inform people all about the unique beverages made right here at home in the mitten state!
Walker and Verma travel all around the state to different festivals, events, wineries and breweries to get an up close view of how the industry actually works. On their newly launched website, it has event coverage, product reviews and even recipes to completely educate Michiganders as much as possible.
In a few short weeks, they will be hosting their second Sip of Michigan event and first annual birthday bash! Help them blow out their candles at the biggest bash of the summer on July 15th from 8 p.m. to 12 a.m. at the Rattlesnake Club in Detroit, which is located right on the gorgeous Detroit riverfront. “The Rattlesnake Club has gone all out to make it the party of the summer. In addition to all the drinks, we’ll have amazing food created by their chef, a DJ, and a live-band karaoke,” said Verma.
Choices are still being added to the list, but as of now it’s looking like 20 to 30 different wineries, breweries, and distilleries will be represented at the Sip of Michigan event. A few that will be tasted are Short’s Brewing, Valentine Vodka, Chateau Chantal, and Atwater Block Brewery.
Another great addition to go along with supporting the Michigan made products theme is that the incredible chefs at the Rattlesnake will be preparing hors d’oeuvres using locally sourced ingredients for the entire menu! The $35 event ticket grants you 35 tasting tickets and all appetizers—one ticket per tasting or three tickets for a full glass. If you are feeling extra thirsty and really enjoying yourself, additional tasting tickets will be available for purchase.
All of the proceeds will be going to a Michigan-based organization, Homefront Hugs. Homefront Hugs pair up individuals with a solider to send care packages and offer that extra support and encouragement. “As someone who has close ties to many currently deployed soldiers, I’ve seen what a difference this kind of support from home can make to them. It can ease depression, loneliness, and make the transition to civilian life when they come home much easier,” Verma said.
Drink Michigan is all about having an enjoyable time, but wants to help the community as much as possible while doing so.
