Marysville is a small town but is known best for Every Avenue, the pop/punk band from the beloved Mitten State. Every Avenue consists of five members, Dave Strauchman, the lead vocalist of this group with a light voice that contains just enough edge to call it punk, Josh Wittenshaw and Jimmie Deeghan make up guitar and back-up vocals, Matt Black brings you bass guitar and back-up vocals, and Dennis Wilson is on drums and percussion. Together, these five make up an unusual sound that has gained them recognition all throughout the United States and even across the globe.

The band got their name when former drummer, Mike Govaere, and his brother were brainstorming band names and Mike stated, “I’ve gone down ‘every avenue’ figuring out this band name.”  By naming their band ‘Every Avenue’ these gentlemen can always be reminded of how much hard work they have put in since first starting out.

Quite like many other bands trying to gain fans and fame, Every Avenue began doing hometown and local shows.  They had to rent out halls on their own in order to perform their music.  Finally, in 2008, they became an international success after being signed with Fearless Records. At this time they released their first full album, “Sh. Just Go With It.”  Not surprisingly, this album quickly climbed the Billboard Charts to number 27. Every Avenue’s sound is much softer than the average pop/punk. Fans describe their latest album, ‘Bad Habits,’ as “very different” from their earlier albums, showing the band’s natural progression and maturity.  It is slightly more aggressive than previous albums and previews of this album can be heard on their website, Facebook page, and on iTunes.

Every Avenue makes a yearly appearance at the Van’s Warped Tourand many other music festivals around the United States.  They have had songs featured on MTV’s The Real World and The Island, along with being featured in a montage during the 2010 NCAA Men’s Basketball Championship. In 2011, Every Avenue traveled to Australia for their annual Soundwave Festival and has toured with many popular bands, including Yellowcard and We Are The In Crowd.

Fearless Records has put out a series of albums entitled “Punk Goes…” and Every Avenue was featured on the “Punk Goes Classic” album, performing Eddie Money’s “Take Me Home Tonight.”  This entire album is highly comical, along with the other albums in the series. These albums can be purchased or previewed through iTunes, in stores, and online.

Currently on tour in the United States, Every Avenue is continuing to find fans everywhere they go. Check out their Facebook page for a full list of tour dates and locations. Their distinctive style and sound ensures that punk/pop enthusiasts will continue to admire and identify with their unique music. ~Jennifer Hamilton, Feature Writer
