One of the best ways to kick off the fall season is this year’s CRUSH Birmingham on September 22nd. With an extensive group of honored guests, including honorary wine personality, Bartholomew Broadbent, and honorary executive chef, Brian Polycn, it is guaranteed to be a night full of delicious wine and food pairings. CRUSH Michigan events raise funds for the Children’s Leukemia Fund of Michigan, and the fifth annual CRUSH Birmingham will be hosted at the Townsend Hotel in Birmingham. A range of tickets is available for purchase: young adult tickets (ages 21-30) are $125, general tickets are $250, and patron tickets are $350. All tickets include admission to CRUSH After-Hours where guests are invited to enjoy some music and “wine down.”

Honorary executive chef, Brian Polcyn, has been involved with CRUSH Birmingham since the beginning. “I love how the community supports the event and vice versa,” Polcyn states, “it’s a great cause.” Polcyn opened the Five Lakes Grill in Milford in 1995, and then opened the Forest Grill in 2008, and loves the exposure CRUSH Birmingham brings to the community. “The wine is obviously the main focus of the event,” Polcyn acknowledges, “I love creating a main course around a distinguished wine.” Polcyn spent years establishing the skills it takes to be able to taste a wine and then pair it perfectly with a dish. Polcyn’s passion for cooking and creating started when he was 14. He says that is was just something that came easily to him and, since he needed to spend a lifetime making a living, he may as well be doing something that he loved. In addition to being a chef, Polcyn is a licensed pilot. He enjoys the focus and creativity that both cooking and flying take.
