Must-Attend Michigan Events This June

June is on track to be a jam-packed, event-filled month for Michigan! Summer is here, Father’s Day is around the corner and all the sunshine are perfect causes for celebration. There isn’t a weekend without a festival to celebrate music, food and drink, fun and family. So here is what I know you’ve all been waiting for, the best Michigan June events that you should flock to this month!

Festival of the Arts: Grand Rapids, June 3-5

This year will be the 47th annual Festival of the Arts which makes it the longest-running festival in the whole state. Every year the festival strives to showcase and build public appreciation for the arts in West Michigan. The festival is a volunteer-run, free community event with art, entertainment, food and fun that is perfect for the whole family. There will be six indoor and outdoor stages with music, dance, theatre, and more as well as poetry readings, films, storytelling and kid-friendly art activities. And if you’re worried about your stomachs, don’t worry! There will also be plenty of food booths throughout the festival! Get more information here!

68th Annual Mackinac Island Lilac Festival: Mackinac Island, June 3-12

The lilac festival kicks-off the start of the summer festivities on Michigan’s beloved island and is the largest summer event to take place! Every year the festival has attracted thousands of visitors to partake in the 10-day celebration. Since it’s beginnings, the festival seeks to celebrate the island’s historic varieties of lilacs, equestrian culture and – never forgotten – the fine food and drink. Hosted by Mackinac Island Tourism and held all over the island, there is sure to be something for every member of the family to enjoy with a sore drawn carriage tours, concert, the Taste of Mackinac, boat cruises, a dog and pony show, a parade and much much more. Pine Groove Electronic Music Festival: Port Huron, June 4

Since its start in 2013, the Pine Groove Festival seeks to introduce electronic music to their community in a family-friendly and inviting atmosphere. Held just outside of downtown Port Huron, the festival grounds offer a fantastic view of the St.Clair River and is free to everyone! The day will feature electronic music by local and international DJs, fantastic food and beverage stands, craft vendors and plenty of kids’ activities like face painting and photo booths! Art, Beer & Wine Festival: Jackson, June 4

The Ella Sharp Museum will be hosting the Art, Beer & Wine festival for it’s 12th year! Taking place on the grounds of the museum, the day will feature over 30 local wineries and breweries, over 40 artists and plenty of live music for attendees to enjoy! The goal of the festival is to showcase all of the very talented musicians, artists, wineries, breweries and local businesses that Michigan has while also benefiting the museum with all the proceeds going to museum programing. Back to the Bricks: Cadillac, June 4-5

The fourth official Back to Bricks cruise in Cadillac is the largest in the northwestern region Michigan! Bring your family for a weekend full of car shows, cruises, raffles, live music, and for the 21+ crowd, fully stocked beer tents. The Pere Marquette Steam Train, the famous ‘Polar Express’ train will be making an appearance to be on exhibit for the day! The packed weekend has everything for anyone in the family. “Love Ludington” Weekend: Ludington, June 10-11

To welcome in the summer, the city Ludington will be hosting a weekend full of festivals and activities for families and residents of the area. Dubbed “Love Ludington Weekend” after the Love Ludington community movement that seeks to highlight and celebrate all that the residents of the area love about it, this weekend is all about sharing that love among the community and the visitors. The weekend will feature a Ludington Lakestride Marathon and Pirates of the Caribbean Shoreline Cruise on the S.S. Badger, a sunset beach bonfire on Lake Michigan and craft show at Historic White Pine Village. And an exciting Guinness World Record attempt for the longest ice cream dessert! The amazing ice cream sundae will be a half mile long; thats 855 gallons for ice cream , 800 pounds of chocolate syrup and enough ice cream for 6,000 people to get TWO scoops. Construction of the ice cream will begin at 5pm on Saturday with the feast beginning at 6pm. Let them know you’re coming on their Facebook page!

Leland Wine and Food Festival: Leland, June 11

Spend the day tasting award-winning wines from over 15 Leelanau Peninsula wineries (and 1 local brewery) and enjoying delicious food from local restaurants. Hosted at their Leland Harbour venues, there will be plenty of fantastic views of Lake Michigan to accompany your tasting experience.  Along with the views and the drinks there will be non-stop live music that will provide all day entertainment from talented artists, Sierra Cassidy, Blind Dog Hank and the Ben Daniels Band. Entry to the festival includes a a “Come & Go” wristband that allows re-entry so you can explore the area.  Get tickets and more info here!

Mt. Pleasant Craft Beer Festival: Mt. Pleasant, June 11

What’s just as good as local wine? Local craft beer!  Hosted by the Mt. Pleasant Jaycees, the Mt. Pleasant Craft Beer Festival offers 21+ attendees to sample some of the best brews around from the likes of Founders Brewing co., New Holland Brewing, Short’s and North Peak Brewing company. A ticket to the festivities includes a sampling glass and six drink tickets. There will also be live music and plenty of food to keep you going! Summer Solstice Jazz Festival: East Lansing, June 17-18

This year is the 20th anniversary of the Summer Solstice Jazz Festival (SSJF)! Every year the festival celebrates the best jazz music from the best local, regional and national artists. This free, family-friendly event is held in the heart of downtown East Lansing and is hosted by the City of East LansingWharton Center for Performing Arts and the MSU College of Music. Along with performances from Ben Williams and his band, Sound Effect, and pianist/vocalist Karrin Allyson and many others there will also be a Jazz Kids children’s activity area and plenty of food vendors! 2016 Founders Fest – A Celebration of Beer & Music: Grand Rapids, June 18

Do you love craft beer so much that you just need to dance? Founders Brewing Co., in GR completely understands. Join them for their biggest party of the year, Founders Fest! Hosted right outside their brewery on Grandville Avenue in downtown GR, spend the day celebrating beer, music and Michigan pride with some of the best beer, fantastic live music, and local food favorites. The lineup for the day includes The Motet, Lee Fields & The Expressions, Reverend Peyton’s Big Damn Band and many more. Still not sure what to do for Father’s Day? Well if your dad is anything like mine, the airshow is the perfect place to take him. Gaylord Regional Airport will be hosting this years’ Wings Over Northern Michigan air show. The two-day event will be showing off a wide variety of vintage warbirds, modern military aircrafts, high speed flying, aerobatics and civilian aviation aircrafts. Quite a sight to see! There will also be food vendors located throughout the grounds! Get more info and tickets here!

Michigan Challenge Balloonfest: Howell, June 24-26

The Michigan Challenge Balloonfest is an annual tradition in Howell that is perfect for the family to experience the amazing sight that is dozens of hot-air balloons in the sky! Not only will attendees get to witness balloons flying in and launching, there will also be a craft show, carnival, food vendors, a skydiving team, stunt kites and live entertainment. Balloons will be in the sky over Livingston County, laughing from Howell High School, as their pilots compete for the state championship of hot-air ballooning. Get more info here!
