Top Michigan Events You Won’t Want To Miss This Month

March is here! The month of green and the beginning of spring. It’s time to stretch those muscles and get out in the warmth and sunshine, Michiganders. March is full of St. Patrick’s day celebrations, spring festivals and much more. Here are the top Michigan events that you should attend this month!

The Slush Cup: Schuss Mountain, Mancelona, March 5th

A staple for Michigan winters, the Slush Cup has been running for more than 40 years. Hosted by Shanty Creek Resorts, this all-day, family-friendly event is sure to be a wild day full of laughs, Starting at 9am, the day is filled with a seal slide,frozen fish toss and shovel races. At 1pm the Slush Cup begins! Skiers, sometimes dressed in crazy costumes, will attempt to cross a 40′ pond to win it all. More information here.

Mozart Mania: East Lansing, March 5th

Experience the genius that is Mozart with the Lansing Symphony! Celebrating his musical gift, the evening’s program will include Divertimento K. 136, Suite from Gran Partita and Symphony No. 40. The night will start at 8pm at the Michigan State University Wharton Center for Performing Arts. Find tickets here!

Suds and Snow: Timber Ridge Resort, Traverse City, March 5th

For the 10th year, the Suds & Snow festival, “the ultimate party in the woods,” is back for a day filled with beer, wine, fantastic local eats. and plenty of winter fun. The festival is 21+ only and there will be non-alcoholic beverage options available! The day will include a 1/2 mile hike, two live-music stages featuring local musicians, over 20 craft breweries, and local food vendors. Make sure to stop by the Short’s Brewing Co. booth on your way around the festival to sample some of Short’s finest brews. More details and tickets here!

Michigan Laughfest: Grand Rapids, March 10th-20th

Hosted by Gilda’s Club Grand Rapids, this 10-day festival if full of comedy, live shows, films, community showcases, plenty of laughs and helping a great cause. Laughfest draws close to 50,000 attendees every year and this years line-up of Seth Meyers, Kathy Griffin, Chris D’Elia and many more is expected to have a little something for everybody. Th events of the festival will be happening all over the West Michigan. with the ‘hub of the festival’ centered in downtown Grand Rapids. All proceeds of LaughFest will go to supporting the cancer, tried and support programs offered through Gilda’s Club Grand Rapids. For tickets and more info check out the event website!

Short’s On The Road-Detroit Tour: Detroit, March 10th-12th

Sponsored by Short’s Brewing Co., “The Short’s show” is hitting the bar scene in downtown Detroit for three days of beer-filled events. The journey will start at Fowling Warehouse for a tap takeover, Grand Trunk Pub for a 2 Huma lunch, a bar inspired scavenger hunt, and the Hopcat Detroit, for a Brewer’s Brunch. Chilly, Brews and Blues Festival: Grand Rapids, March 12th

Hosted by the Gilmore Collection and 97 LAV-FM, the fourth annual Chilly, Brews and Blues festival will take place at The B.O.B. in downtown Grand Rapids. This family-friendly day will feature live music, a delicious chili cook-off and more. A portion of the chili cook-off ticket sales will be donated to Melanoma skin cancer research through MSU Gran Fondo. For more information, check out the website here!

Big Screen Cuisine: Grand Rapids, March 15th 

The Grand Rapids Downtown Market and the UICA have paired up to bring you “an interactive culinary and cinematic experience“, once a month, all year. Perfect for foodies, movie buffs and anyone in-between. This months movie is the Oscar winning “Grand Budapest Hotel” and will be partnered with a French pastry class. Participants will meet at the Downtown Market for a class teaching them how to make a sweet treat inspired by the film itself. The film will be shown right after the class at the UICA theater. The night begins at 3pm with tickets available here!

Ann Arbor Film Festival: Ann Arbor, March 15th-20th

The Ann Arbor Film Festival is the longest-running independent and experimental film festival in North America, founded by George Manupelli in 1963. This week long festival is a great way to support the arts and experience something new. This year, the 54th Festival, will feature more than 200 films, videos and live performances. Carnival Weekend: Boyne Mountain, MI. March 18th-20th

Where’s the one place that you can celebrate Mardi Gras, St. Patrick’s day, the beginning of spring and all the craziness in between? Carnival Weekend at Boyne Mountain is the place. The schedule for this packed weekend includes the classic skiing and snowboarding, an on-hill party, costume contests, zip-lining and their very own Slush Cup. Krazy Daze: Boyne Highlands, March 18th-19th

Another spring celebration weekend, Krazy Daze, hosted by Boyne Highlands Resort, is a great weekend getaway for all members of the family. This weekend will have no shortage of live music, skinning and snowboarding, and events tailored to every member of the family. For the kids there is face painting and giant inflatables and for the adults there is a “Get Crazy Party” Friday night. Get your tickets here!

Irish On Ionia: Grand Rapids, March 19th

As “Michigan’s largest St. Patrick’s Day street party,” Irish On Ionia is a must for anyone 21+. For the sixth year, this day long celebration of all things Irish will be on Ionia Street in downtown Grand Rapids and stretch all the way from Oaks to Fulton and Weston. Hosted by the new Waldron Public House, this year will feature the Irish on Ionia Stout, Banging The Mash, a dry Irish stout. Along with this custom brew there will be two live music stages, food tents and plenty of beer. Get your tickets at the door or in advance here!

Sips, Chips & Dips: Leelanau Peninsula, March 19th

Leelanau Peninsula is back at it again with the perfect way to get your taste buds going. This free event will help you pair everyday, delicious snacks with the perfect Leelanau wine. Great for foodies and wine lovers! Some of the snacks include, a buffalo chicken dip, feta dip, warm blue cheese, bacon and artichoke dip and Doritos-crusted chicken nuggets.
