Summer may be winding down, but that doesn’t mean it’s time to stay inside just yet. Check out these seven walks and runs taking place over the next few months where you can enjoy the change of seasons and beautiful Michigan scenery that graces the Mitten State in the fall:
September 11, 2016
Run through the streets of Huntington Woods and around the Detroit Zoo during the 20th Annual Run Wild for the Detroit Zoo. Runners can participate in a 5K, 10k, or combination run. A 1.5-mile walk will also take place inside the zoo. Runners will receive a shirt, food and drinks, access to the zoo after the event, and a finisher medal. Proceeds from the event will benefit the zoo’s Ruth Roby Glancy Animal Health Complex and help provide veterinary care for the zoo’s animals.

Sponsored by the Muskegon Humane Society, this race offers the opportunity to bring your furry friends with you for this event! The race includes a 5K run and walk with medals being awarded. Participants also receive goodie bags and t-shirts. Plus, following the race play disc with your dog for a chance to win trophies.

Charlotte, Michigan features this fall-themed 5K to the benefit the Greater Lansing Food Bank. Attendees will run through the apple orchards and pumpkin patches of The Country Mill. Shirts, donut holes, and a banana will be given to those who participate. After the race, runners can enjoy the cider mill and race participation includes access to a spooky bounce house.

Beginning in Empire, Michigan, runners will enjoy views of the Sleeping Bear Dunes and Manitou Islands. The race includes a 5K, half-marathon, and full marathon.

Get on a costume and run or walk from the zombies on Michigan’s Sugar Trails in Bay City. Runners can try to escape the zombies on the course (and trick them into thinking they’re one of them by dressing like one). Makeup artists will be onsite, so participants can get into the spirit, plus participants will receive a shirt and all finishers will receive a medal. The event features a 5K and a Freaky Fun half-mile or mile walk.

In Coloma, run and walk past apple and cherry orchards, grape vineyards, pumpkin patches, a cemetery, and a haunted house. The 5K route will also feature Halloween stations throughout. Plus, come in costume because there is a costume contest with a cash prize. Proceeds from the races will benefit renovations to the Coloma High School weight room.

Celebrate Day of the Dead with this 6th annual race that highlights Hispanic culture. Check out the Anderson Enrichment Center in Saginaw to learn more about the holiday and take in the cultural experience. Participants receive a shirt and there are themed awards for runners as well as costumes.
