TC Cycle Pub

TC Cycle Pub

Writing for the Awesome Mitten has sent me on some amazing adventures over the past two years. Every now and then, I receive an assignment that is exceptionally delightful, one that particularly excites me about my town and the great state of Michigan. New to Traverse City this year is the TC Cycle Pub, and I imagine it will be a long time before anything excites quite like this vessel does.

Cycle Pubs are gaining popularity in various cities throughout the United Sates. Co-owners Troy Daily and Kevin Farron quickly familiarized themselves with the concept after Farron drove one in Oregon and knew that it was something Traverse City needed to have. With so many delicious breweries, wineries, and pubs to experience, cycling around on a giant bicycle with friends and family is obviously the best way to travel between them all.

The TC Cycle Pub seats 14 people, with ten of those seats available to peddlers. To book a tour with the TC Cycle Pub, your group needs to have eight or more people in it. Group rates are $300 for a 2-hour tour. Riders can choose where they want to go, as long as the roads needed to travel are TC Cycle Pub friendly. This means the roads need to have a speed limit of 25mph, have 2-lane one-ways, or be alleys/residential areas. The city of Traverse City also has a few restrictions on where this mobile pub can and cannot go, but there are dozens of places to stop in the unrestricted zones.

If you are unsure of where to go, the TC Cycle Pub is always happy to provide suggestions. A great pedaling route includes The Filling Station, Bubba’s, The Open Space, The Little Fleet, and Northern Natural Cider House. Of course, the places the TC Cycle Pub travels to do not need to be alcohol related; anyplace in the downtown vicinity is open for visiting, including ice cream parlors, pizza places, and coffee shops.

The TC Cycle Pub may be huge, but it is not hard to pedal. All ages are welcome; Daily and Farron have welcomed everyone from age 3-65 aboard, and it is impossible to ride without giggling. The reaction from fellow Traverse Citians is absolutely hilarious and very welcoming. The TC Cycle Pub is a fun, safe way to travel to the various breweries and pubs that you’ve always wanted to try in downtown Traverse City.

To book a tour, contact Daily or Farron by email or through their website directly. Bookings are closed 36 hours in advance, and it is easy to book online to see availability. The TC Cycle Pub is also available for off-site parties and events. The bonus of having the TC Cycle Pub on private property is that riders are then able to consume beverages while aboard the vessel. For more information on private parties, email info@tccyclepub.com.

Add a little extra incentive to your cycle tour by participating in TC Ale Trail! TC Ale Trail is free to participate; all you have to do is pick up a ‘passport’ at any of the eight participating breweries, the Visitor’s Center, or surrounding hotels. Fill your passport with a stamp at each of the eight locations by making a purchase and you will win a commemorative silicone pint glass from The Filling Station, or win a bonus prize with a ninth stamp from Grand Traverse Distillery. A fun way to experience TC Cycle Pub, TC Ale Trail, and the expanding Traverse City brew scene!

Have you ridden the TC Cycle Pub yet? Connect with them on Facebook and Twitter to keep up with all the laughs and excitement!

Michigan has amazing people, delicious beer, and unlimited outdoor activities to participate in. One thing I have noticed about our mitten state is that no matter which city I am in, those factors do not change. I am a therapist by day and an explorer of all things Michigan the rest of the time.
