Michigan has great food. There just isn’t enough room in this guide to list all the fantastic Michigan treats that you could gift this holiday season, so we’ve narrowed it down to our very favorites:
Traverse Gourmet
Why send one thing when you can send the varied flavors of Northern Michigan all in one basket? Traverse Gourmet has a ton of gift baskets that are sure to appease any foodie on your list. Our favorites from their current selection? If you’re looking to spend a nice chunk of change, your best bet is the 12 Month Artisan Food Club: “Treat yourself or someone special for twelve full months with an exclusive assortment of Traverse Gourmet products. Our selections change from month-to-month so that you get the absolute best of what’s in season. You’ll have exclusive access to our artisans’ newest succulent creations and limited edition products.”
If you’re looking for something a little more cost effective, check out Traverse Gourmet’s Dune Snacks giftbox featuring products from Just Good Chocolate, Grocer’s Daughter Chocolate, Brownwood Farms, & Sleeping Bear Farms.
Have a vegan on your list? The Very Vegan giftbox features Grocer’s Daughter Chocolates, Light of Organics Tea, and Great Lakes Tea & Spice Olive Oil.
Dave’s Sweet Tooth Toffee
Looking for something to give to your coworker who appreciates fine sweets? Dave’s Sweet Tooth Toffee is, well, we don’t have much more to add to what our feature writer, Jennifer Hamilton, says: “Magic. That’s right, it tastes like magic. Handmade with only a few simple ingredients; milk chocolate, butter, almonds, and sugar, I am only slightly embarrassed to say I once ate an entire jar in one sitting.”
Lush Nuts
Based out of Kalamazoo, Lush Gourmet Nuts founder Bisera Urdarevik, creates unique flavored nuts, pairing salty and sweet for an addicting snack. “The crunchy exterior composed of just salt and sugar completely defies all expectations of those
two ingredients and has tempted me to begin coating everything with them in attempts of recreating the crunchy goodness,” says our feature writer, Chad Cramblet.
Can’t decide between Cinnamon Spice, Coffee, or Hot Curry? Get someone a variety pack that features a sampling of each of Bisera’s delectable flavors!
Noteware Candy Company
From our feature writer, Rhonda Greene: “Even though Manistee’s Noteware Candy Company has only been selling their delicious goods for a couple of years, I’ve been a fan of Tom Noteware’s caramels for as long as I can remember. The caramels were once a Christmas tradition, made once a year and distributed to friends and family. I grew up next door to the Notewares, and every year we would get a handful of them as part of the neighborhood cookie swap. Oh, those caramels! We would nibble them and savor them, so soft and smooth, enjoying them to the fullest because we knew it would be another whole year until we had them again.”
So make them a Christmas tradition in your family, and grab some caramels from this Manistee company!
Zingerman’s
Could we really put out this list without including the internationally renowned Zingerman’s? Meats, cheeses, breads, cookies, candy and more – you can’t go wrong with a gift from Zingerman’s. Oh, and another thing, they have a Bacon Club. No, that’s not a club sandwich with bacon, but rather a club where you receive different types of bacon, delivered to your doorstep every month. A dream. They have a bunch of other “of the month clubs” too including “Culinary Adventure Society“, “Forbidden Foods Club“, “Italian Sweets Club“, and “Coffeecake Club”.
Looking for something a little less expensive? Make your own foodie gift basket featuring cheeses from Zingerman’s Creamery, some Peppered Bacon Farm Bread, and Cacciatore Salami. Want to include a sweet too? Try some Handmade Marshmellows!
Other notable items from Zingermans: Gift Boxed Cinnful Cinnamon Rolls in Wooden Crate and Michigan Mitt Maple Cutting Board (lower peninsula only).
None of these items tickling your fancy? Try a gift certificate to a local restaurant!
