Surrounded By Outdoor Adventures In Ludington Park – Escanaba #MittenTrip

During my MittenTrip to Escanaba, I found that Ludington Park is more than just your average park. It offers acres of beach, water sports, land adventure, and scenic beauty that demonstrates what Michigan’s Upper Peninsula is really about. This vast park has something that every age group can enjoy and provides hours of entertainment. In short: it was the perfect place to spend a sunny Saturday.

Ludington Park is completely surrounded by Little Bay de Noc. This means the outskirts of the park are entirely made up of beaches. These sandy alcoves provide volleyball courts and plenty of room for sandcastles, while the beautiful Lake Michigan provides crystal clear water for swimming and snorkeling.

Following the coastline of Little Bay de Noc is the Ludington Links disc golf course. This course offers nine baskets with very little interference from trees. The grassy fairways make discs easy to locate. The only fear is that many of the baskets are directly on the shoreline of Little Bay de Noc. One extended throw could mean losing a disc in the waters forever.

One of the best playgrounds I have ever seen can be found at Ludington Park. This beautiful play area includes extravagant slides and extremely unique swings. The tunnels, ladders, and bridges provide the perfect set-up to play games of hide-and-go-seek tag that elicit giggles that can be heard throughout the park. Conveniently, directly next to the playground is a snack shop called Sticky Fingers. This adorable shack offers popcorn, ice cream cones, and cold beverages.

The Sand Point Lighthouse is also located within the borders of Ludington Park. This beautiful lighthouse is a staple of Escanaba’s history and is full of educational plaques that describe its services. Next to the Lighthouse is the Delta County Historical Museum, making even rainy days at the park enjoyable.

The harbor within the park offers a boat launch and beautiful views of the boats that come and go. MISH Watersports is located in this area, where water enthusiasts can rent kayaks or stand-up paddle boards. MISH Watersports also offers kiteboarding lessons for extreme adventurers. The shape of the harbor and surrounding Little Bay de Noc creates many scenic routes for paddlers of all skill levels.

Other physical activities available include lighted tennis courts, a bike path, a fitness circuit, and baseball fields. During the summer, various bands play on Monday nights in the Karas Memorial Band Shell. Dozens of picnic tables and grills are available for use, making it easy to pack the car full and spend the whole day at the park.
