Day 290: Michigan Awesome

With a saturated market of Michigan business, it takes a solid niche and a whole lot of gumption to stand apart. That gumption, dedication, and passion overflows at Michigan Awesome. Michigan Awesome is slated as a “celebration of hometown love disguised as a shirt company” per one of their company slogans.
Michigan Awesome creates unique and ultra-creative apparel options that represent Michigan. The website offers selections based on the state as a whole, specific cities, and specific area codes. With a very tongue-in-cheek sort of humor, Michigan Awesome t-shirts have slogans such as, “Smitten in the Mitten,” “Michigangster,” “Isn’t for Sissies,” “Bi-Peninsular and Proud,” “4 out of 5,” “Home is Where the Hand Is,” “Peace Love Michigan,” “Michigan Awesome,” and many more! All of the apparel is printed on high-quality American Apparel cotton t-shirts, most also available in hoodie form as well.

Founder at The Awesome Mitten

The Awesome Mitten was born when I moved back to Michigan from Nashville, TN in September 2010. Almost immediately, I became frustrated. I couldn’t figure out why there weren’t more Michigan residents singing our states praises! I was so irritated, I wrote a Letter to the Editor. Three weeks later, I had started a Facebook page, a Twitter account, and a landing page for the website, determined to do something to make Michigan residents aware of all the cool things going on in their own state.
