Michigan is awesome because of the people that live, work and play here. None of that would be possible without people who care about helping people buy homes, and it is a double awesome moment when those people also help their communities in other ways. AmeriFirst Home Mortgage is committed to educating home buyers and giving back to the community. Dan Moyle, Multimedia Marketing & Communications Specialist for AmeriFirst explains, “We are interested in doing business the right way.”  That means they care about empowering the home buyer.

For nearly 30 years, the company has been working deep in the trenches to finance homes and build a more connected community. AmeriFirst has offices in ten states, but they are incredibly proud of the founding and business growth that has happened in Michigan. With their corporate office located in the Kalamazoo area and branches throughout the state, they are genuinely invested in helping their neighbors learn more about buying homes.

Historically, the housing market has had its ups and downs (and round and rounds), but through it all, AmeriFirst has been there to help home buyers make solid and smart decisions about their purchases. Moyle explains, “We have never done a subprime loan, that really sets us apart from other companies.” They care about educating people first and foremost, the other stuff that comes after is just a bonus for them.

AmeriFirst’s education process is unique because of the videos and downloadable resources they make available to the community. Moyle says, “We love that we’re educators; the more educated the home buyer, the better the whole market will be.” Among many other resources, AmeriFirst highlights information the community might not know about, but is really useful and empowering. Some resources include:

These are excellent, helpful options for homebuyers and even those not buying a home anytime soon. The Home Improvement Loan is a loan to help with improvements around the house. This could mean buying a “fixer upper”, or merely making improvements where you’re living already. Then, the USDA Rural Development Mortgage is an option for homebuyers to borrow 100% of the appraised value. This alleviates the need for a down payment, and homebuyers have the option to borrow 2% more than the appraised value. With the extra money, the buyer can make some necessary improvements if need be. AmeriFirst is dedicated to helping homebuyers learn more about their options across the board.

The size of AmeriFirst’s heart does not stop at homebuying though. In addition to being an integral part of every community in which they reside, they are also committed to several local charities. Their community involvement is varied, but stays along the theme of helping out their neighbors where they can. AmeriFirst is a proud supporter and sponsor of March of Dimes in Kalamazoo, which extends to the sponsorship of the Signature Chefs Auction. They are also pivotal in the support of the local Big Brothers Big Sisters and the Bowl for Kids’ Sake event. The list goes on, but the point is clear: AmeriFirst loves Michigan and wants to make it a better place.

AmeriFirst is an educator, a community activist and a Mitten supporter. They “do business the right way,” which helps all Michiganders out. Find out more about the company on their website, “Like” them on Facebook, Follow them on Twitter, add them to your Google+ Circle or watch their YouTube videos–the options are limitless!

I was raised in vacation-land, Traverse City, where I was one of the lucky ones to enjoy the beach in the summer and snowboard through the winters. Then, I went to college and lived in East Lansing and Lansing, where I learned about sports and getting things done. Now I'm quite honestly falling head over heels for Detroit. I solemnly believe that life is too short for bad coffee, yucky wine, and poorly crafted beer. This means that Michigan is the perfect place for me! My spare time is spent reading or exploring the outdoors. E-mail me: joanna@awesomemitten.com.
